4G + GPS Temperature Data Loggers for In-Transit Monitoring

A warehouse logger tells you what happened inside one room. A transport data logger has a harder job: the product is moving through traffic, loading bays, toll plazas and customer docks, and the question after an excursion is always "where and when did it happen?". A GPS temperature data logger answers both at once. Every reading is location-stamped, so a temperature spike can be tied to a particular stop, a long wait at a port gate or a door left open during a delivery.

Unlike most Wi-Fi-only loggers, which store data until they reach a known network, the Ideabytes GPS range uses a 4G cellular link, so readings and position reach the cloud dashboard during the trip. Dispatch teams see the fleet on a map view, and QA teams receive the same data as an audit-ready record when the consignment is delivered.

All three loggers combine route and temperature in one device, so there is no separate vehicle tracker to install, pair or reconcile afterwards. They differ in range, display and whether humidity is measured.

In a refrigerated truck or reefer container the risk is rarely a slow drift. It is a compressor that trips on a hill, a genset that runs out of fuel or a rear door left open while cartons are unloaded. With a 4G + GPS logger mounted in the cargo area, the reading and the location reach the dashboard at the configured polling interval (15 minutes by default, user configurable), and live alerts, app push notifications and optional SMS go to the driver, the transport controller and QA at the same time.

On the MT120-CN and MTH120-CN the accessory list includes a door sensor and a local buzzer, so a door-open event can be logged alongside temperature. If the network drops in a dead zone, readings are held in internal memory and the battery keeps the logger running through power interruptions.

Good Distribution Practice expects a distributor to show that temperature-sensitive medicines were kept within their labelled conditions during transport, and to investigate and document any deviation. A cold chain data logger that uploads during the trip makes that evidence easier to produce: the complete time series, the route, the alarm log and any corrective action are in one record rather than spread across a USB file, a GPS report and an email thread.

The Ideabytes cloud platform generates 21 CFR Part 11 compliant PDF reports on demand or on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, with mean kinetic temperature (MKT), audit trail, alarm logs, trend graphs and CAPA entries. Indian cold chain routes combine long state highway runs, port and ICD dwell time, city last-mile deliveries and power that is not always reliable at the depot. A cellular logger with a built-in M2M SIM does not depend on the driver's phone or on Wi-Fi at the destination, which keeps set-up simple for distributors that move stock between cities, ports and rural clinics.

The loggers are designed and manufactured in India by Ideabytes IoT, which has built data loggers since 2009, is GeM registered and is a DOT-approved M2M service provider. The HSN code is printed with each model number on the product page for purchase and GST paperwork.

The GPS loggers are plug and play: power them from a 5 V / 1 A DC supply, mount them in the cargo area and they register on the cloud platform through the built-in cellular link. On the IBI-MT70 the external stainless-steel probe connects through a bottom-mounted GX12 aviation connector, so the logger body can sit near the bulkhead while the probe reaches the product zone. Place the probe where it represents the load, for example in the return air path or inside a reference carton, rather than directly in front of the evaporator.

Set alert limits per product family, choose who is notified at each escalation level and decide whether reports are generated per trip or on a daily schedule. The internal battery bridges engine-off periods and power cuts at the depot: up to 30 hours on the MT70 and up to 20 hours on the 120-CN models.

If the logger stays in one cold room, freezer or walk-in chamber, a fixed 4G M2M or Wi-Fi logger is the simpler choice and there is no need to pay for location. Choose a GPS data logger when the asset moves: reefer trucks, insulated vans, mobile vaccine units, sample couriers and shipments where the customer asks for a route-plus-temperature record. For single trips where no live view is needed, a USB logger with an automatic PDF report is the lower-cost option.
