USB Temperature Data Loggers with Encrypted PDF Reports

You configure the logger, press start, and place it with the product, in the fridge or in the shipment. It records at a 10 minute interval by default (configurable) until you stop it manually or plug it into a USB port. When connected, the IBI-UT70 and IBI-UTH70 generate an encrypted PDF report automatically. The receiver does not need to install any software to read it, which removes the usual problem of a consignee who cannot open the file.

Configuration software is used to set the logger up before a trip. At the default 10 minute interval, the 14,400 reading memory covers up to 90 days of continuous recording, which matches the battery life.

Both loggers share the same flat body (95 x 40 x 10 mm, about 36 g), the same -30 °C to +70 °C temperature range with ±0.5 °C (±0.9 °F) accuracy, the same CR2450 3 V lithium coin cell and the same manual start with manual or USB-connection stop.

Choose the IBI-UTH70 when humidity matters as well as temperature: packaging materials, paper and documents, electronics, seeds, some APIs and excipients. It adds a humidity range of 1 to 99 % RH with ±3 % RH accuracy. For temperature-only shipments and storage, the IBI-UT70 is the simpler choice.

The deciding question is whether someone needs to know about an excursion while it is happening, or only needs proof afterwards. A USB logger gives proof afterwards: the record is complete and tamper-evident, but nobody is alerted until the logger is plugged in. That is right for shipments, audits, spot checks and backup logging.

If a failed fridge must trigger an SMS or app alert within minutes, choose a connected logger. Wi-Fi loggers suit sites with reliable Wi-Fi. 4G loggers with a built-in M2M SIM suit vehicles, remote stores and sites without IT support. Many customers use both: connected loggers on fixed equipment and USB loggers in the boxes that leave the building.

USB loggers are built for the journey. The flat, light body fits inside a carton, an insulated box or a pallet wrap without taking up payload space. Start the logger when the consignment is packed, and the receiver stops it by plugging it into any computer, which produces the encrypted PDF on the spot. The consignee can accept or reject the shipment on the evidence in front of them.

Typical uses include vaccines and temperature-sensitive medicines moving between a distributor and a hospital pharmacy, clinical and diagnostic samples, food samples going to a lab, and seasonal stock held in a third-party store where you cannot install a connected system. An editable spreadsheet from a logger is weak evidence, because anyone in the chain could have changed it. The IBI-UT70 and IBI-UTH70 generate the report inside the logger and write it as an encrypted PDF, so the file the QA team receives is the file the logger produced. That supports the data-integrity expectations in 21 CFR Part 11 and GDP audits, where you must show that records were not altered.

Keep the PDF with the batch or shipment record. For regulated use, pair the logger with a calibration certificate so the accuracy of the reading is documented as well as its integrity.

The IBI-UTPROBE50 is a different tool: a handheld K-type thermocouple probe that plugs into an Android phone. It connects through a 2-in-1 OTG connector that fits both Micro USB and Type-C ports, on a 1.2 m cable joined to the probe by a waterproof 4-pin aviation plug. The probe measures -40 °C to +50 °C, sends a reading every second, has a t80 response time of 6 seconds and an IP61 rating.
