Temperature & Humidity Data Loggers

Temperature alone does not tell you whether a store is fit for purpose. Tablets and capsules absorb moisture, packaging softens, labels peel, powders cake and electronics corrode when relative humidity drifts high; very dry air causes static and cracking. Many storage conditions on medicine labels and in GDP and GMP guidance therefore specify both a temperature band and a humidity limit.

Logging both values on one device gives a single record per location, one set of alarms and one report for the auditor. It also lets you spot the link between the two, for example humidity rising every time a cold-room door is left open or an air-conditioner cycles off, and it halves the number of devices you have to install, calibrate and maintain.

A built-in sensor sits inside or on the logger body, so the logger itself must be placed in the space being monitored. Ideabytes built-in models (WTH50, MTH50, ETH50 and OTH50) measure 0 °C to +50 °C and 0 to 100% RH with ±2% RH accuracy, which covers offices, pharmacies, stores and most ambient rooms.

An external probe lets the logger stay outside the monitored space, where the display is readable and the network signal is good, while the sensor goes inside a cold room, chamber or duct. The 120 models (WTH120, MTH120, ETH120) measure -40 °C to +120 °C and 0 to 100% RH condensing with ±2% RH accuracy, and are the ones to choose for cold rooms and harsh environments. Probes are ordered separately and cable length can be customised.

Near 100% RH, water can condense on the sensor itself. A sensor rated for condensing conditions keeps working and recovers; one rated non-condensing is designed for air that stays below saturation. Cold rooms, blast freezers after defrost, greenhouses and wash-down areas can all reach condensing conditions.

Every humidity range above is available with more than one connectivity option, so choose the network that suits the site. Wi-Fi models (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4 GHz) suit sites with reliable Wi-Fi and are what most people mean by a temperature humidity sensor with Wi-Fi. 4G M2M models with a built-in SIM work without site Wi-Fi or IT involvement, and the MTH120-CN adds GPS for vehicles. Ethernet models connect to a LAN RJ45 10/100 port.

For locations with no network, the standalone OTH models store 90 days of readings at a 15-minute interval and download over their own Wi-Fi or a USB cable. The UTH70 USB logger stores 14,400 readings and produces an encrypted PDF report when plugged in. The BTH70 Bluetooth logger stores 32,000 records, is read with an Android app and runs on a replaceable CR2450 coin cell.

Connected temperature and humidity loggers send readings to Ideabytes web and mobile apps (iOS and Android) at a default 15-minute interval, which is configurable. When temperature or humidity crosses the limits you set, the system raises live alerts, app push notifications and SMS, and every alarm is kept in an alarm log.

Reports are 21 CFR Part 11 compliant PDFs with an audit trail and trend graphs, available on demand or on a schedule, and excursions can be closed with a CAPA entry. The connected models display readings on a 1.3-inch OLED screen and hold 90 days of data in memory, so a network outage does not leave a gap in the record. Software features are provided in different plans.
