Cloud monitoring software

CMARS21: Cloud-Based Temperature Monitoring Software for Ideabytes Data Loggers

CMARS21 is the cloud monitoring platform behind every connected Ideabytes IoT data logger. Wi-Fi, 4G and Ethernet loggers and the RS485 MODBUS and Dixell gateways send their readings to it every 15 minutes by default, and the web and mobile apps for iOS and Android turn those readings into live dashboards, trend graphs, alerts by SMS and app push notification, alarm logs with an audit trail, mean kinetic temperature and 21 CFR Part 11 compliant PDF reports, scheduled or on demand. A data logger with software is what makes a temperature monitoring system: the logger measures, CMARS21 watches, warns and keeps the evidence. Software features are provided in different plans.

What goes wrong without monitoring software

  • A logger without software is a box of numbers: someone has to walk to it, download the data and build a chart before anyone knows there was an excursion.
  • Equipment alarms only sound in the room, which is empty at night, on Sundays and during a festival shutdown.
  • Readings scattered across USB downloads, spreadsheets and paper charts never agree, and none of them shows who changed a limit or deleted a row.
  • Head office cannot see twenty branches, godowns or vaccine stores on one screen, so supervision depends on phone calls and photographs of thermometers.
  • Auditors ask for the temperature history of one fridge on one date with the action taken, and an editable spreadsheet is weak evidence.
  • Every vendor ships its own software, so a site with freezers, chambers, cold rooms and energy meters ends up with four logins and four report formats.

How CMARS21 works

  1. 1Install the logger or gateway, power it, and let it join the site Wi-Fi, the LAN or the 4G network through its in-built M2M SIM; it appears on your CMARS21 account.
  2. 2Name each device and channel after the room, fridge or chamber it monitors, and set the high and low limits, alarm delay and who is notified at each escalation step.
  3. 3Watch live values, map, list and dashboard views and trend graphs on the web or in the iOS and Android apps, from any site or city.
  4. 4Receive live alerts and app push notifications, with SMS available, the moment a limit is crossed or a logger loses power or network, and acknowledge them in the app.
  5. 5Generate 21 CFR Part 11 compliant PDF reports on demand or on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule, review the alarm log and audit trail, and close excursions with a CAPA entry.

What is CMARS21?

CMARS21 is the cloud temperature monitoring software supplied with Ideabytes IoT connected loggers and gateways. It receives readings from every device on your account, stores them, and presents them through a web dashboard and mobile apps, so the same platform covers a single pharmacy fridge and a network of cold stores across several states. There is no server to install or maintain on site.

Because every Ideabytes device reports to the same platform, a site can bring its temperature loggers, temperature and humidity loggers, multi-channel PT100 units, GPS vehicle loggers, refrigeration-controller gateways and MODBUS sensor or energy-meter gateways onto one screen, with one set of alarm rules and one report format for QA, operations and customers.

Live dashboard, trend graphs and multi-site views

The dashboard gives real-time visibility of assets and IoT parameters: the current reading and status of every channel, with map, list and dashboard views for operators who manage many locations. Open any channel for its trend graph over the period you choose, and compare the minimum, maximum and mean against the limits.

Loggers poll at 15 minutes by default, configurable per device, and hold 90 days of readings on board (40,000 records on the 8-channel units), so a network outage does not leave a hole in the history. When the connection returns, the stored readings are sent and the graph fills in.

Alerts by SMS, app push notification, email and call

Each channel carries a high and a low limit. When a reading crosses a limit, or a logger reports loss of power or network, CMARS21 raises a live alert and an app push notification, with SMS available in the software plans. Email and voice-call alerts are available on the software plans that include them; ask Sales which channels your plan covers.

Build the escalation around who can act at 3 am: the shift operator or pharmacist first, the supervisor or biomedical engineer if the alert is not acknowledged within a set time, then the QA or facility manager. A short alarm delay stops routine door openings from waking anyone, while a genuine excursion still reaches someone within minutes.

21 CFR Part 11 reports, audit trail, MKT and CAPA

Reports are 21 CFR Part 11 compliant PDFs with trend graphs, the alarm history and mean kinetic temperature (MKT), generated on demand or on a daily, weekly or monthly schedule and delivered to the people you choose. Every reading is time-stamped and kept with an audit trail, and changes to limits, settings and users are recorded, which is what inspectors look for in electronic records.

Every alarm is kept in an alarm log, and an excursion can be closed with a CAPA entry that records the cause and the corrective action. User management gives each operator, reviewer and administrator an individual login with access control, and user roles with per-site alert contacts let a head office team supervise many branches without sharing one account. The 21 CFR Part 11 checklist and the IQ OQ PQ guide explain how these features map to an audit.

Which data loggers and gateways connect to CMARS21

Every networked Ideabytes device reports to the platform. Choose the connectivity that suits each site; the dashboard, alerts and reports are the same whichever you pick.

  • Wi-Fi loggers (802.11 b/g/n, 2.4 GHz): IBI-WT120, WT350, WTD120, WTH120, WTH70, WTH50 and the 4- and 8-channel PT100 units WTR4 and WTR8
  • 4G M2M loggers with an in-built SIM: IBI-MT120, MT350, MTD120, MTH120, MTH70, MTH50, the MTR4 and MTR8 PT100 units and the GPS loggers MT70, MT120-CN and MTH120-CN for vehicles
  • Ethernet loggers (RJ45 10/100): IBI-ET120, ET350, ETD120, ETH120, ETH70 and ETH50 for server rooms, hospitals and plants that prefer wired devices
  • Gateways: IBI-CSC50R (Wi-Fi) and CSC50RM (4G) for RS485 MODBUS sensors and energy meters, CSC50T for Dixell cold-room controllers, and the IBI-AGW edge gateway for a local HDMI dashboard
  • Standalone, USB and Bluetooth loggers do not connect to the cloud; they produce their own 21 CFR Part 11 PDF or CSV reports locally

Data logger with software vs a standalone data logger

The deciding question is whether someone needs to know about an excursion while it is happening or only needs proof afterwards. A standalone or USB logger gives proof afterwards: a complete, tamper-evident record, but nobody is alerted until it is downloaded. That suits shipments, mapping studies and backup logging. A connected logger with CMARS21 gives both: the same record, plus an alert within minutes and a report that generates itself.

Many customers run both: connected loggers on fixed equipment that report to CMARS21, and USB loggers in the boxes that leave the building. Software features such as SMS, scheduled reports and user roles are provided in different plans; ask Sales which plan fits the number of devices and users at your site.

Compliance support for pharma, healthcare, food and logistics

The platform provides the records that WHO GDP, Revised Schedule M, NABH assessments, ISO/IEC 17025 audits and FSSAI inspections commonly ask for: a continuous time-stamped history per storage unit, alarm logs with corrective action notes, an audit trail and 21 CFR Part 11 compliant PDF reports, backed by NABL-traceable calibration certificates available on request for each logger. Validation of the installed system (IQ, OQ and PQ) remains the responsibility of the user or a validation partner; Ideabytes supplies the devices, documentation on request and the reports.

Frequently asked questions

Is CMARS21 included with the data logger?

Every connected Ideabytes logger and gateway reports to CMARS21. The product listings state that software features such as 21 CFR Part 11 PDF reports, MKT, SMS, audit trail, alarm logs, trend graphs, scheduled and on-demand reports, live alerts, app push notifications and CAPA are provided in different plans, so confirm with Sales which plan covers the features and the number of devices you need.

Can I use the temperature monitoring software on my phone?

Yes. CMARS21 has web and mobile apps for iOS and Android. The apps show live values and trend graphs for every device on your account and deliver app push notifications when a limit is crossed, so an on-call pharmacist, scientist or engineer can see and acknowledge an alarm from anywhere.

What happens when the internet or power fails at the site?

The loggers keep measuring. Single-channel loggers store 90 days of readings on board and the 8-channel units store 40,000 records, and they run on an internal battery for up to 18 to 24 hours depending on the model. Loggers alert on loss of power or network, and the stored readings are sent to the platform when the connection returns so the history has no gap.

Is CMARS21 21 CFR Part 11 compliant?

The platform produces 21 CFR Part 11 compliant PDF reports with an audit trail, alarm logs and individual user logins, which are the controls inspectors check first. Part 11 compliance is a property of your whole system, including validation, SOPs and training, so the installed system should be qualified through IQ, OQ and PQ before its records are relied on. See the 21 CFR Part 11 checklist and the IQ OQ PQ guide.

Can several sites be monitored on one account?

Yes. Operators with many branches, cold stores or vaccine points see every location on one dashboard with map, list and dashboard views, the same alarm rules everywhere and one set of reports for head office. User roles and per-site alert contacts let each site receive its own alarms while the central team keeps oversight.

Can third-party sensors or existing equipment connect to the platform?

Through the gateways, yes. The IBI-CSC50R and CSC50RM gateways read RS485 MODBUS RTU sensors, energy meters and inverters, and the IBI-CSC50T reads Dixell cold-room controllers, so their values appear on the same dashboard, alerts and reports as the Ideabytes loggers. Share the make and model of the equipment and we will confirm the register map.

What does the cloud based temperature monitoring system cost?

It depends on the number of loggers and gateways, the connectivity (Wi-Fi, Ethernet or 4G with an M2M SIM), the software plan that covers the alert channels, scheduled reports and users you need, and calibration requirements. Send us the list of equipment and sites and we will propose a layout with an itemised quote.
